Amplified: Art, Music, Power Community Open House

Join us for a celebration of the power of music during our Community Open House featuring pay-what-you-wish admission and engaging activities suitable for all ages. Check out our latest exhibition Amplified: Art, Music, Power and explore how music can serve as a positive force for liberty and equality. Spark your creativity at our Creation Station, featuring music-themed button-making, a collaging workshop, and a photo booth. Find your rhythm and keep the beat with a performance and workshop by Philadelphia’s own Positive Movement Drumline.

Teachers, administrators, and school faculty are welcome to join special educator-focused programming, including access to a free raffle, activities, and field trip demonstrations in our newly opened exhibition Project Liberty: A Design Challenge.

In honor of MLK Day of Service, make a contribution to our instrument donation drive benefiting Musicopia’s Gift of Music program. Donate gently used band and orchestral instruments in playable or reasonably repairable condition and Musicopia will repair them and place them with students who are eager to play and are in need of a quality instrument. or more information, visit the instrument donation drive page on our website.

About Positive Movement Drumline

Positive Movement was started in 2011 by Tony Royster, who wanted to merge his two passions – drumming and contributing to his community – and envisioned a way to positively impact all the kids that reminded him so much of himself growing up. Positive Movement’s mission is to decrease gun violence in the city of Philadelphia by providing all people with a safe environment, resources, leadership, and inspiration required to express themselves with drumming, dancing, positivity, and love. The group can be seen on any given day drumming throughout the city of Philadelphia.

Musicopia’s mission is to provide equitable access to music education and enrichment, encouraging self-confidence, global awareness, dedication and joy in Pre-K to 12th grade students and their communities. Musicopia has served more than 393,000 students since its founding 50 years ago.

Through a teaching roster of more than 150 professional ensembles and solo musicians of the highest caliber, Musicopia helps Pre-K-12th grade students explore and develop their musical interests, learn to play an instrument, and perform alongside enthusiastic peers through in-school assemblies, workshops, and residencies, and long-term ensembles including the after-school Musicopia String Orchestra and Musicopia Drumlines. With a goal to inspire a love of music that will last a lifetime, Musicopia’s programs represent musical styles and traditions from around the world including classical, jazz, Latin, African, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, opera, hip hop, rock/pop and others.
